Phanom Rung Castle is located on top of a dormant volcano with 200 meters of height. It is the most famous Khmer rock castle in Thailand! Not only that it is a grand castle, there is a Tub Lang which is a crafted stone with beautiful details and hidden stories. One of the stones was stolen and it took around 28 years to bring it back to the castle.
Prasat Muang Tam is a Hindu religious place created around the 16th-17th Buddhist century, according to Shivaism of Hinduism. It is located on the lower plateau of Khao Phanom Rung and it is probably a community related to Phanom Rung Castle since the two castles are close to each other. The architecture of Prasat Muang Tam was built by royal skilled craftsmen, comparable to Prasat Phanom Rung while the name of Prasat Muang Tam is understood to be called later by referring to the high land of Phanom Rung since the word “Muang Tam" means low or flat areas.
