Half day - Every Morning
This is a combination of busy and tranquil waterways, providing a nice contrast between fast and slow, urgent and unhurried. The tour begins on the Chao Phaya River (the “River of Kings”) a major artery for a colourful, often-bewildering variety of huge barges, express passenger boats, cross-river ferries, thundering “longtails” plus many other fascinating and photogenic things afloat. We then enter one of the smaller side canals, a door to a more intimate view of Thai riverine life, a perspective of Bangkok very different to the images seen from a coach. In addition to the overall enjoyment there are two highlights – a visit to the Royal Barge Museum, and the famous landmark of Wat Arun (the Temple of Dawn) The temple is richly decorated, and the massive 70-metre tall prang (Khmer-style tower) makes it one of the most published images of Bangkok.
