Day 1 Bangkok to Chiang Rai + Chiang Khong
This morning you will be transferred from your hotel to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport for your flight to Chiang Rai Airport, where you will be met and taken on a sightseeing trip in the famous Golden Triangle, which is where Thailand, Myanmar + Laos meet.
In mid-afternoon you will be checked-in to your hotel in Chiang Khong, alongside the Mekong River, which forms the natural border between Thailand + Laos.
Time to relax and enjoy the peaceful comfort of your riverside hotel ... later this evening you will have dinner in the hotel's terrace restaurant whilst you look across the river at the twinkling lights of Houey Xai in Laos, where you embark tomorrow on your journey of a lifetime along the incomparable Mekong River.
Day 2 Chiang Khong to Pakbeng [Laos]
After breakfast you will be taken to the Thai border at the Mekong River bridge, then across the bridge to Houey Xai on the Laos side of the river. Once border formalities have been completed you will transferred to the Luangsay riverboat to begin your exciting 2-day trip along one of the great rivers of the world: the mighty Mekong.
Lunch,, and coffee + tea, is provided on the comfortable Luangsay riverboat on both days.
As you journey deeper into Laos, the river scenes are forever changing, always fascinating.
Enroute to Pakbeng you will visit a minority-tribe community, then you continue along this magnificent fast-flowing waterway until late afternoon.
Your overnight stop is Pakbeng, where you will stay in a comfortable lodge perched on a hillside along the Mekong River. The lodge, and it's stunning location is always a highlight on the Mekong River journey: views along the river gorge are breathtaking.
Dinner is provided this evening, as well as breakfast in the morning.
Day 3 Pakbeng to Luang Prabang
Your second day on the Luangsay riverboat will exhilerate with each sweeping turn of the powerful and scenic Mekong. Tree clad hills slope down to the river and every so often a traditional Lao village can be seen clinging to the upper sides of the riverbank. A short stop is made this morning at one of the riverside villages, and after lunch onboard, you will visit Pak Ou caves, which contains thousands of Bhudda images.
Late this afternoon you arrive in Luang Prabang, truly one of the precious jewels of South East Asia ... you will be met and taken to your charming villa-style hotel.
Dinner is included tonight.
Day 4 Luang Prabang
Old Luang Prabang is a beautiful town, gleaming temples mixed with French-colonial + 'old Asia' architecture-styled shop-houses and villas, protected by its World Heritage status.
Encircled by mountains at the confluence of the Mekong and Khan rivers, Luang Prabang delights the senses with its tranquil pace of life and lovely charm.
This morning you will have time to relax and wander around the town, then this afternoon you will be taken to see the Royal Palace and Mount Phousi, then to the beautiful Wat Xieng Thong temple.
Day 5 Luang Prabang
If you get up early today you'll be able to watch the procession of monks throuh the main street of Luang Prabang.
After breakfast you will join a sightseeing trip that will take you into the countryside: you'll stop in a Lao village, then go on to the lovely Kuang Si Falls, where you will have time for a refreshing swim if you wish.
Day 6 Luang Prabang
Today is free to absorb the old-world atmosphere of Luang Prabang: visit some of the beautiful temples or just stroll at leisure through this truly delightful town, along the riversides, and among the friendly Lao people.
Dinner is included tonight at a local restaurant.
Day 7 Luang Prabang to Bangkok
Today it's time to say farewell to Laos: after breakfast you will be transferred to Luang Prabang Airport for your flight to Bangkok.
