My first visit to Thailand was 13 years ago before I entered the travel industry. 
As a backpacker, I had mixed experiences, so I was keen to revisit Thailand through different eyes. Before I left I thought it was going to be horribly hot and dirty and, to be honest, a little third-world. After going, I can't recommend it enough - the rainy season was cool enough that I wasn't too uncomfortable, the shopping was great, the spa treatments were amazing and the people were so very friendly. Definitely much more than I expected and not a third world experience at all!
